Archive – My Books and Stories

In the past, I have written Science Fiction and Fantasy books and short stories for Middle Grade and Young Adult readers. I have also written a non-fiction book about being a spectator at Marathons. My books and short stories are independently published on Amazon. This hasn’t been a recent focus of mine, so while I invite you to look for me there with my full name: Karen T. Smith, I also ask for understanding that these are very early career works and I’m a different type of writer today (this update written at the tail end of 2025.)

My primary current writing work is a daily list of three good things, which you can find and subscribe to on the Substack website via my publication The Inside of My Brain

Convergence by Karen T. Smith

My young adult (young end of YA, perfectly appropriate for most middle-grade readers) science fiction novel CONVERGENCE by Karen T. Smith is available on all ebook platforms.

Links to purchase CONVERGENCE: Amazon KindleBarnes and Noble NookApple’s iBookstore and Smashwords for most other e-readers.

Paperback available on most e-retailers, and at CreateSpace.com.

What is it about? Well, one of the taglines we came up with when brainstorming this cover was:

Space Station, high school, some really terrible hair days, diabolical plot. Things just go from bad to worse for Anya.

But the one we went with (after a completely unscientific facebook friend poll where this one won by a landslide):

It’s bad enough getting dragged to the space station Convergence to attend high school, but when Anya uncovers a diabolical plot aboard, she’ll have to rely on her wits and new friends to stop it.

And here’s the full blurb from the product description:

Anya is pissed when her family moves from earth to the Space Station Convergence. Everything is strange from the food (soy paste in all its colors and forms) to the frequently changing gravity conditions at her new high school.  Anya soon uncovers a plot to take over the central computer’s core processor. While this might not bother your typical geek, Anya is anything but your typical geek. She has discovered that the central computer is self-aware, and that computer is Anya’s first friend on the Convergence. Anya will do anything to protect her computer friend, Isis, even if it means breaking into Central Computing and telling her other new (human) friends about Isis.

Convergence, by Karen T. Smith

But don’t just take my word for it, read it for yourself and let me know what you think! Reviews as always are GREATLY appreciated!

Short Stories by Karen T. Smith

I have written several short stories. You can find them primarily on Amazon.

Apples on the Moon – this was the first story I ever wrote. It was also the first story I submitted anywhere. It won a contest and appears in the Return to Luna anthology put out by Hadley Rille Press.

Moon Cliques – one of the things I’ve always liked about writing science fiction is taking the problems of today and putting them in space to see what is the same and what is different.

Library of the Apocalypse – true story: this came about as a result of a writing challenge I did with a  number of online writing friends. The prompt was “Apocalyptic Taco Mix” and that was the title of this story for a long, long time until I rewrote the ending and removed the zombies. (I can put the zombies back in whenever I want, she says quietly to herself.) I partly wrote this as an ode to librarians. Librarians were instrumental in helping me find the science fiction shelf when I was a girl and are heroes of the modern age.

Snow White and the Assassin’s Guild – I wrote this for a writing class I took quite some time ago.
